As a small-scale enterprise, backyard chicken-farming is very important for rural households because it provides a source of high-quality protein and also generates cash income. The main source of livelihood in rural areas is agriculture: crops, fishing, forestry, livestock, poultry and hunting . Poultry is an integral part of the rural economy and to give a boost, FLO has been supporting its Target area( Northeastern Cambodia) farmers including the O’krasang villagers since 2018 . Funded by WWF, FLO provides chickens, cages and chicken-training programs from the Department of Agriculture to its beneficiaries.
In late 2018, Mr.Rath Mouth joined FLO’s chicken raising project in O’krosang village, Boeng Char commune, Sombo district, Kratie province. He said FLO’s supported Chicken-Raising project is helping rural families meet their daily food need and income to support their children’s education.

These interventions are also helping in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Chicken meat has low cholesterol and can fetch a higher price in the current-day organic market if properly sustained. The chairman of the Boeng Char council, Mr. Houl Soueng encouraged the locals to cooperate and share acquired technical knowledge of raising chickens. With no upfront cost, Chicken farming not only provides healthy food but also facilitates income generation on a sustainable basis.
